Is it okay to reuse a crib mattress that has two small rips in it? What are the rules with crib mattresses?

I do not have the money to buy a crib mattress. The crib mattress I was using for my son got a rip in it while moving that is about ½ inch long.

If I turn it over so that the side with the rip is on the bottom and I put a mattress pad cover over the good side, will it be okay to use?

What are the “rules” with crib mattresses? When should you throw them out or replace them?

I think it will be ok. Flip the mattress and put a mattress cover and sheet on it. I think it'll be fine.

I would say you are ok, as long as you take the precautions you listed. These things are too expensive to throw away because of such a small thing!! :)

If you use the precautions you listed then it should be fine to reuse. My son’s mattress has a small hole in it and I still use it. Also, with the recent epidemic of bed bugs plaguing many parts of the world, I would patch the holes with duct tape or something.
